BUL Buried Utility Locator Disclaimer.
Locating Disclaimer
Utility Mole, its equipment, and technicians are accurate within +/- 3% on utility locations with depths up to 10 feet deep.
Guaranteed Locates
_____What we guarantee. We guarantee that we can find and locate all properly installed and undamaged utilities including: electrical lines, communications cable, cable television, metal pipes (gas, water, sewer, fluid transfer, oil, and sewer) with known access points and where conditions listed as not guaranteed locates are not present up to 10 feet deep.
Accuracy Tolerance And Depth
_____Although Utility Mole, its equipment, and technicians are accurate within +/- 3% on utility locations with depths up to 10 feet deep, distortions due to many uncontrollable factors requires that we set our accuracy tolerance for marked utilities at three feet on either side of the markings. Soft excavation/hand digging is required in those areas where depth and exact location are required.
_____All Utility locates are subject to verification by soft excavation/digging or hand digging to verify depth and exact location.
_____Depth when indicated is only an estimate. Where depth measurements are required soft excavation or hand digging to expose the utility is required.
Duration of Marking
_____Markings are only good for 15 days from completion of locate (Date on receipt is completion date.)
Blue Stakes First
_____Before contracting with a private locator call blue stakes and request all utilities be marked. (Blue stakes will contact all utility companies and the utility companies will mark their buried lines using maps and locators. Utility Mole will locate and verify utility company marks as well as map out all additional lines (private and those missed by the utility company). If contractor/excavator has not notified blue stakes and requested utility locating on the property the contractor/excavator agrees to do so prior to digging.
_____Utility Mole will trace, mark, and identify all requested and identifiable utility lines that are traceable. Utility Mole will search for unknown utilities too at the customer request. Unknown utilities are those that have no known access point (meter, breaker box, above ground pipes, power poles, boxes, distribution center, or where access points are far and or unknown).
_____Unknown utility locates (where no access point is known or too far from the access point to transmit signals) trace to limited depths dependant on the soil and composition of pipes/cables buried. Most lines can be traced up to 8 feet deep depending on soil condition and type of utility. Though every effort is made to locate unknown utilities we cannot guarantee with certainty the location of all unknown utilities (those without direct access in proximity of area where the utility location and designation is requested). Unknown utility location sweeps may identify other lines that may or may not be active.
Utility locating limitation and not guaranteed locates.
_____Utility mole does not guarantee location of untraceable, unknown utilities, or those utilities without direct access though every effort is applied to locate any and all utilities designated or not. (Unknown utilities and utilities without direct access are those which do not have a point to connect or enter the pipe with a transmitter.)
_____Untraceable utilities includes but is not limited to broken disconnected utilities, pipes where no tracer wire/tape has been installed or where the tracer wire/tape has been damaged; copper plumbing whose couplers, valves, sections are nonconductive or where breaks in the lines occur. Cast iron, ductile metals, whose conductive properties are low and/or nonconductive sections, couplers, valves or any other factor that inhibits or prevents the ability of the pipe to act as a conductor (carry electrical current/transmit signal) will hinder or prevent the locator's ability to trace such line. Other untraceable and unlocatable utilities include but are not limited to corroded cast iron and ductile metal, concrete, plastic, broken/disjointed pipe, pipe with nonconductive couplers and valves, cables and fiber optics that have been installed without tracer devices (tracer tape or wire). Also broken tracer tape or wire will limit or null the ability to locate utilities such as plastic pipes, concrete pipes, fiber optics, and other poor, nonconductive materials.
Sewer and Storm Drains
_____Sewer and storm drains are only traceable up to 400 feet from acceptable access points and where the pipes are large enough to accommodate transmitter and the bends, breaks or blockages in the pipe do not restrict ability of transmitter to travel down the pipe.
_____Though Utility Mole is thorough and competent in locating utilities, Utility Mole does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy of utility locates in congested areas, where utilities are deep, where utilities are damaged, where utilities do not have an approved tracer device, plastic pipes, concrete pipes, and/or pipes considered to be poor conductors for any reasons. In these areas soft digging/hand digging is required.
_____In the event that an unmarked utility is discovered during excavation, the excavation contractor must immediately stop excavation and contact Blue Stakes and follow protocol to verify who the owner of the buried utility is. Consult with all utilities to determine the owner and type of utility discovered. If utility companies do not claim the discovered line consult with a private locator to determine what the discovered utility is and if it is still active. Never assume that the buried utility is abandoned; and never continue excavation without verification of the utility type and who is the owner of the utility.
_____Depths where given are only estimates. Visual verification via hand dig, soft excavation /potholing is required where depth of buried utilities is required.
DISCLAIMER: THE EXCAVATOR EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE UTILITY MOLE ATTEMPTS TO PROVIDE ACCURATE LOCATE INFORMATION, HOWEVER, THE UTILITY MOLE, ITS OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR PROVIDING ANY INFORMATION TO AN EXCAVATOR, WHETHER PROVIDED NEGLIGENTLY OR NOT, AND WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED BY THE EXCAVATOR FOR ANY REASON RELATED TO THE LOCATE INFORMATION.
LOCATES: THE LOCATES SHALL INDICATE, USING LABELLED STAKES, FLAGS, AND/OR HIGHLY VISIBLE PAINT MARKS, THE CENTER LINE OF THE UNDERGROUND PLANT IN THE VICINITY OF THE PROPOSED EXCAVATION. MARKINGS OR STAKES USED FOR THE IDENTIFICATION OF UNDERGROUND PLANT SHALL BE SPRAY PAINTED IN STANDARD UTILITY MARKING COLORS. A LOCATE FORM SHALL BE GIVEN TO THE EXCAVATOR REQUESTING THE LOCATE. THE LOCATE FORM SHALL INDICATE ANY SPECIAL CONDITIONS WITHIN THE LOCATE AREA SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: UNDERGROUND PLANT THAT MAY REQUIRE ISOLATION PRIOR TO THE EXCAVATION; THE LIMITS OF THE WORK AND THE LOCATE; THE NEED TO EXCAVATE BEFORE THE MARKINGS DISAPPEAR OR ARE DISPLACED, AND THE NEED TO HAND DIG TO LOCATE THE PLANT WITHIN THE BOUNDARY LIMITS OF THE LOCATE
Did You Know... You might arrive at a job site and find no markers, even AFTER utility locating has been completed. In this case, do not assume that the area is clear of utilities. Someone may have pulled up the flags or rubbed out the markings. Or the locator may have marked the wrong site. Check for indicators that buried utilities may be present, such as electric boxes, transformers, and gas and electric meters.
